Michael has a DPhil in mathematics and his research interests include mathematical modelling in epidemiology and healthcare, efficient model calibration methods, machine learning and rough path theory. He is leading the design and development of Policy1, a discrete-event simulation framework geared towards the simulation of different cancers and their screening and surveillance strategies. This platform will help consolidate and homogenize the modelling infrastructure used by the Cancer Research Division (CRD) to carry out effectiveness and cost-effectiveness studies of different cancer screening programs. Using this platform, Michael is collaborating with others in CRD to develop Australian models for the ongoing epidemiological and economic evaluation of changes in the detection, management and treatment of prostate and lung cancer, and the systematic screening for Lynch Syndrome.
